Women: Awaken Your Leader Within
By: Eleanor LeCain
For too long, our society has been driven by ego and greed, bringing us to this moment of multiple crises. We have crises in our economy, in our government, in our environment and more. All of these crises play out in the lives of millions of people who have lost jobs, lost health care, lost homes and lost heart.
The crises arise in part because we have been trying to fly on one wing and are about to crash. We need women to rise up so humanity can fly on two wings and soar.
We are at a fork in the road. We have a choice. Do we want to live from fear or from love? We can continue on the present path of ego, greed and separation from each other and Mother Nature. That path leads to death and destruction. Or we can choose love and create heaven on Earth. Which path do we choose, fear or love? This is a decision we face each moment, each day, in matters large and small. It’s not complicated. It’s a choice.
We are fortunate to live at a historic moment when an old world is dying and a new world is being born. Breakdown creates the way for breakthrough to new ways of being. This is true for us personally, and for the country and the world.
To ensure that we move successfully from breakdown to breakthrough requires women to step into leadership in a bigger way.
This is a time for women to remember who we are. Remember our power as a woman. It’s women who give birth, who tend to children and turn a house into a home. We are creators, mothers, nurturers, and, when need be, fierce warriors to defend our children and our values, like a lioness defending her cubs.
We women have come a long way. In 19th century America, it was against the law for women to speak out in public or own property. But courageous women spoke out and made tremendous progress. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony devoted their lives to ensure that women got the right to vote. They believed once women had the right to vote, they could use political power to bring about other needed changes. And we did.
Now we live in a new day with new challenges. It’s time for women to really step up to the plate. Women tend to be more oriented to service and compassion, and to create solutions that encourage the cooperation we need.
But we women often resist being leaders. We’re afraid of stepping forward and getting attacked so we shy away from taking a stand. We’d rather harmonize than antagonize. We’re polite and don’t want to offend. We want to be liked.
We don’t have a good impression of leaders. We often see leaders as driven by ego and greed. It’s no wonder we don’t want to be like them.
The good news is, we don’t have to be like them. We can demonstrate a new kind of feminine leadership: power with, not power over. Leadership that awakens, inspires, and guides people to a better life. When we show the way with feminine power, we can help men see a new model of leadership that truly serves.
Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic.”
What we need now is powerful love and loving power. We need more women in decision-making government positions and at every level of society. We need to do more than just add women and stir–we need women to bring a fierce commitment to life, children and spirit. From this place we need women to lead our families, our communities and our country away from the dark abyss to brighter days.
We’re each at a critical moment in our own lives, and it’s a critical moment for the whole world. The time is crying out for women to step forward in a bigger way than ever before. It’s time for us to learn how to provide even more leadership for ourselves, our families, our communities, our country and our world.
