Defining Your Dreams for 2012

With the coming of the New Year, we often find ourselves striving for re-invention, or decide to dedicate ourselves to living our greater purpose. Yet many of us are unsure exactly how to find out what our higher purpose is, or how to read the clues our lives have given us already as to what that purpose truly is.

Some advice I would give you, if you are searching for your purpose in life, is to scan your life and look at all the actions that you've taken that have inspired you and find the common thread in each of them. Look at where your skills are most profound. Look at what you have done that has been most inspiring, most meaningful and most purposeful to you and synthesize these. This will point you in a meaningful direction. Everything in your life is directing you. When you experience tears of gratitude in your eyes, you're on track. So pay close attention to those moments. Doing what you love and loving what you do is the key to living a fulfilling life. If you look at who your heroes have been, what you've studied most, what you've thought about most, what you've mastered most, what you're inspired by most, and integrate them, you'll discover what your mission in life really is.

I'm a big believer in defining and refining and re-defining and re-refining your dreams, constantly polishing exactly how you would love your life to be, and being realistic and inspired by the vision of your destiny, making sure it's truly what you would love to have as your destiny. If you can't wait to get up in the morning and go and live it then you're clear and on track. If for some reason you're still not inspired by your life and your mission, then you obviously have not yet clearly defined and refined enough.

One of the most clouding illusions which can hold you back is not recognizing your true power and magnificence and living only according to what you feel you 'have to do,' 'should do' or 'need to do' rather than what you would 'love to do.' This is ultimately futile. You have been put on this earth to live magnificent dreams and explore your vision and mission. You can only do this when you are true to yourself and love that truth.

It can be scary to think we are completely in control of our life and the results we achieve. We might prefer to be guided from the world outside rather than the world within. There is no ultimate right or wrong and there is place in the world for all thoughts and opinions. The truth is it is up to us to decide and only when we decide to use our inner powers will it be effective.

Everyone lives by an evolving set of priorities or values and concentrates their energies on what is highest on their value list or what is most important and meaningful to their lives. Whatever is truly highest on your priority list is your most meaningful and purposeful objective, purpose or mission. The study of this most important aim in life is called teleology or the study of meaning and purpose. Everyone innately knows what this is in their heart, but they let their fears cloud its clarity. The key to unveiling the mystery of your purpose is simply look honestly at what your life shows is truly most important and define that clearly. Your life demonstrates your mission daily. Your actions reveal what it is because you are living it.

So, determine what is truly most important to you, or what is highest on your list of priorities or values, and target your learning and actions in that primary direction. This will be your most meaningful and purposeful path or mission to fulfill. Your purpose and most meaningful service to the world will also be the most effective and efficient pathway of fulfilling these highest values. When you can't wait to get up in the morning to do what you love serving the world you have aligned with your highest values and feel like you are fulfilling your mission.
